Present: Senator Andrew Mathews - Chair, Senator Warren Limmer - Vice Chair, Senator Bruce D. Anderson, Senator Karla Bigham, Senator Jim Carlson, Senator Mark Johnson, Senator Ron Latz, Senator Torrey N. Westrom

Absent: No Members Absent

Senator Andrew Mathews called the meeting to order at 1:02 PM.

Committee Member introductions and Committee Staff review of
     jurisdiction.


Senator Mathews notes that Quorum is present. The agenda begins with member and staff introductions, and overview of the committee jurisdiction from Priyanka Premo, Senate Council.

 

Introductions:

Senator Bigham is from SD 54 South Saint Paul to West of Hastings. She is the DFL lead on the Civil Law and Data Practices Committee. She is a former City Council member, and former County Commissioner.

 

Senator Limmer. NW Hennepin County, Maple Grove, Osseo, Dayton and Rogers.

 

Senator Latz from SLP, Hopkins, Golden Valley, Medicine lake and Plymouth. Was a former city council member.

 

Senator Andersen of SD 29, most of Wright county. Has not served on civil law either in the senate or house before. 

 

Senator Carlson represents SD 51, the Eagan and Burnsville areas. 

 

Senator Johnson introduces himself as from northwestern Minnesota. He has a legal background, and is an attorney from Grand Forks, MN.

 

Senator Westrom from Elbow lake MN, introduces himself. He began his politcal career in the house, and was the chair of the House Civil Law Committee before running for the senate. 

 

Chair Mathews introduces himself. His hometown is Princeton, MN and he is happy to serve with the Civil Law committee. 

 

Tim Bohl introduces himself as the Committee Administrator for Civil Law. 

 

Priyanka Premo, introduces herself as Senate Council.

 

Linnea Michelson introduces herself as the GOP researcher for the Committee.

 

Ms Premo reviews the committee jurisdiction.

 


S.F. 26: Senator Limmer: Marriage applications in-person waiver requirement extension.

 

Senator Limmer introduces and moves SF 26.

 

Member discussion regarding Sf 26.

 

Senator Bigham offers the A1 Amendment

 

Member discussion on the A-1 Amendment to the bill.

 

Senator Bigham withdraws the A-1 Amendment.

 

Senator Limmer notes that the house bill has been passed in its present form. And is now moving to the house floor

 

Barbara Olson, Regional Manager with Hennepin County Vital Records testifying in favor of the bill. 

Betty Kimult, County Recorder from Brown County Minnesota testifies in favor of SF 26.

 

Senator Limmer has no more questions.moves that SF be passed and moved to the Senate floor.

 

Motion is that SF26 be recommended to pass by Senator Mathews.

 

Voice Vote: All vote aye. Motion prevails. And SF26 is on the way to the floor.
