Senator Sean R. Nienow

Biography

Senator Nienow always paid attention to politics- his favorite class in high school was about contemporary political ideologies- and like many in the Republican caucus he admired Ronald Reagan.  During the 1990s, Senator Nienow was a local, then district chairman of the Republican Party.  Nienow was first elected in 2002 and served until 2006. He was re-elected in 2010 and now serves his second non-consecutive term in the Senate.

Fiscal responsibility with the tax payers money is a high priority for Senator Nienow. The same common sense money management used by families and businesses is also necessary with the state budget. Senator Nienow is committed to being thoughtful, prudent and disciplined with your tax dollars to ensure the state meets its obligations, provides appropriate help to those in need, and fosters a vibrant economic climate for Minnesota business.

Isanti and Chisago Counties continue to be home to families with children and Senator Nienow considers his K-12 Education Committee assignment an important one, allowing him to represent families and children by  making sure legislation passed is in the best interest of children. His work on that committee is helping to make Minnesota's school system one of high caliber for public school students while also creating a positive environment for those who choose private and home schools.

Health Care is an important issue to most every Minnesotan and Senator Nienow's work on the Health and Human Services Committee reflects his market -oriented approach and his commitment to high quality options and fiscal responsibility with the tax payers dollar. Health and Human Services is a large part of the state's budget.

Nienow grew up in Stacy and attended Northwestern College, where he majored in Business and Psychology. He also served as a major in the United States Air Force Auxiliary  Civil Air Patrol. Prior to his first term in the Senate, he worked for American Express Financial Products for 14 years. He currently works as a process consultant and adviser.

Sen. Nienow lives in Isanti County with his wife, Cyndy. He has seven daughters and one son. He enjoys reading and photography.
