Senator Linda Higgins is the Minnesota State Senator from District 58, representing Downtown and North Minneapolis. She first took office in the Senate in 1997. She is the lead member on the Environment and Natural Resources Committee. Sen. Higgins also serves on Capital Investment, Health and Human Services, and Finance.
During the interim, Sen. Higgins works for the city of Minneapolis. Before being elected to the Senate, Sen. Higgins was an assistant to City Council Member Joe Biernat. Her other employment has included, McGraw-Hill Healthcare Publications as an editor of the medical journal The Physician and Sportsmedicine and Modern Medicine Publications and Control Data Corporation in positions ranging from advertising production to editor.
Sen. Higgins special legislative concerns include public safety, housing, communities of color, elections, and health. During the 2007 session, some of her proposed legislation will include predatory lending, electronic waste recycling, and public safety prevention measures.
Sen. Higgins graduated from Mankato (Minnesota) State College in 1972, with a B.S. in English and a minor in Journalism. She received an A.A. degree from Iowa Lakes Community College (Estherville, Iowa) in 1970. She graduated from Titonka (Iowa) Consolidated School in 1968.
Sen. Higgins grew up on a farm in Northern Iowa. She is the youngest of three children of Dale and Toni Higgins. She is married to Brian Bushay, who is a computer programmer. They live in a Victorian home in Minneapolis
