| Jobs Killing Governor Vetoes Tax Relief Bill | ||||||||||||
St. Paul - Senate Majority Leader David Senjem(R-Rochester) issued the following statement in response to Governor MarkDayton’s veto of the latest jobs and tax relief bill.
“Governor Dayton has done it again. With yet another veto of a bipartisan jobsbill, he has earned the title: ‘Jobs Killing Governor.’ Republicans and Democrats passed this jobsand tax relief package to provide much-needed support to Minnesota families, students and small businesses. Instead of approving this measure toreduce the tax burden on nursing homes, increase incentives for hiring veteransand encourage thousands of jobs across the state, Governor Dayton added to hisrecord of vetoing our bipartisan work, smothering job growth,” said SenatorSenjem.
Governor Dayton vetoed 31 bills thus far thisyear, 27 of which had bipartisan support. Republicans’ latest effort tocompromise resulted in House File 247, a bill that addressed concerns theGovernor raised in his veto letter of previous tax relief legislation. This bill received bipartisan support in both the House and Senate priorto arriving at the Governor’s desk.
“What’s more? This jobs bill was the picture ofcompromise, developed with the Governor’s signature in mind. I was deeply disappointed to learn hedecided to reject our efforts but I know my disappointment pales in comparisonto the frustration felt by Minnesota students, first-time home buyers, unemployed veterans, families and main street businesses,” concluded SenatorSenjem.
