| Sen. Miller joins federal, local officials to assess progress on new veterans cemetery | ||||||||||||
Preston, MN - State Senator Jeremy Miller (R-Winona) joined Congressman Tim Walz and Chairman Jon Runyan of the U.S. House Committee on Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs today to assess progress on the new veterans cemetery in Preston.
I was gratified to see that plans are moving along in a timely way and that southeastern Minnesota will have a new cemetery for our veterans as early as two years, said Miller. It is especially fitting that our veterans will rest in this beautiful spot.
Southeastern Minnesota was designated for the new cemetery in legislation carried by Sen. Miller last year. Fillmore County donated 153 acres near Preston. The federal government will reimburse Fillmore County for construction costs, but the state is responsible for ongoing operating costs.
I want to extend my sincere thanks to local officials from Fillmore County, local veterans organizations, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs and all others who have been involved in this very important project, Miller concluded.
