| SENATOR MILLER’S STADIUM AMENDMENT PREVAILS IN FULL SENATE | ||||||||||||
(St. Paul) – Senator Jeremy Miller (R- Winona) today placed a major amendment on the Viking’s stadium bill intended to get the deal done for Minnesota but make a “better deal” for Minnesota taxpayers. The amendment, which passed in a unanimous bi-partisan vote, was looked upon as a major change to the bill that was on the Senate floor.
“We just made a good deal for Minnesota even better,” Senator Miller said. “In addition to the decreased public participation, most important was the capping of the public costs.”
Miller’s amendment capped the state’s contribution to the stadium construction at $373 million. That meant that any cost overruns or changes would be borne by the Vikings and not the taxpayers. This amendment was similar to one that was part of the Twins’ Target Field bill in 2006.
Many of my constituents have spoken and written to me about getting the job done but making it a good deal. Today we accomplished that goal in a strong bipartisan way,” Miller concluded.
