| SENATOR MILLER SAYS HE SUPPORTS STADIUM BILL ON SENATE FLOOR Plan of working group is best, but he will continue to be open to good ideas | ||||||||||||
(St. Paul) – Senator Jeremy Miller said today that he is open to ideas being floated as options to resolve the end of session questions, but continues to believe that the stadium proposal that is a product of the efforts of an 18-month bi-partisan working group, which is funded with revenue from electronic pull-tabs and bingo, is the most feasible plan. The current proposal would help increase funding for charities throughout the state, local bars and restaurants and provide funding for a new publically-owned stadium.
This proposal is currently waiting for a full Senate vote. The bill has had hearings in four different legislative committees and is the most workable plan, Miller said. It has been thoroughly vetted, and nearly two-thirds of the senate has had the opportunity to consider the bill through the committee process.
Miller added he would be willing to look at other options that may lead to a resolution with other lawmakers and the Governor, but believes a stadium without a roof is not practical for Minnesota.
"In addition to hosting the Minnesota Vikings, the current Metrodome facility is used over 300 days per year for youth, high school, college and amateur sporting events, festivals, trade shows and several other events. A new facility will continue to fulfill these needs as well as provide the opportunity for Minnesota to host larger scale events like the Super Bowl and Final Four," he added.
