Sen. Pappas to address “Minnesotans Unite Against the War on Women” rally in St. Paul

St. Paul – Following a rally behind the State Capitol in St. Paul tomorrow, men and women of all ages will march in solidarity with “Unite Against the War on Women” events taking place across the United States. Sen. Sandra Pappas, DFL-St. Paul says “Minnesotans are doing this to help defend women’s rights and in the pursuit of equality. We will come together as one to tell members of Congress in D.C. and the Minnesota State Legislature that ‘enough is enough’ with the bills attacking women’s reproductive rights.”

As the session heads toward a close, the War on Women continues with unrelenting attacks on women in Minnesota by the anti-choice majority in the House and Senate. Just last week the Minnesota Legislature saw more attacks on women’s reproductive rights by the Republican majority with the passage of two abortion related bills. Governor Dayton has already vetoed one bill, and is expected to veto the other.

The rally will gather at Cass Gilbert Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. to listen to inspiring women, including opening remarks by Congresswoman Betty McCollum. Sen. Pappas will also address the gathering and provide an account of her work for women’s rights and equality in the Minnesota State Legislature.

“Over my nearly 30 years at the Capitol, I have been proud to fight to move Minnesota toward equality and justice for women,” said Pappas. “Unfortunately, this year we’ve been kept busy trying to block legislation that would slide our state backwards.”
