| HOWE GETS SHELDON FUNDING IN SENATE BONDING BILL $612,000 for Theater Renovations | ||||||||||||
St. Paul --- State Senator John Howe (R-Red Wing) announced today that he was able to include a $612,000 request for T.B. Sheldon Auditorium renovations in the Senate version of the state capital investment bill.
“The Sheldon Theater is a Red Wing treasure that also serves our entire region,” said Sen. Howe. “This beautiful and historic building is in need of important repairs and renovations. I was happy to work with the Sheldon board and City of Red Wing to get their request included in the Senate’s bonding bill.”
The Sheldon’s request has some hurdles to overcome before the funding is available. Governor Mark Dayton did not include the Sheldon in his bonding proposal, and the House of Representative’s version of the bonding bill has nothing specific for the Sheldon either.
“The Senate will pass its version of the bonding bill, as will the House,” said Sen. Howe. “We’ll iron out differences between the two bills in a conference committee, and the Governor will have to sign it. I will do everything I can to make sure the Sheldon funding stays in place throughout the entire process.”
Senator Howe said the bonding bill was passed today by the Senate Capital Investment Committee, and will be debated by the full Senate in the next few days.
