DAHMS’ JOBS BILL SIGNED BY GOVERNOR

(St. Paul) — Today, a job-creating bill authored by Senator Gary Dahms (R-Redwood Falls) was signed into law by Governor Mark Dayton.

Senator Dahms’ legislation (Senate File 1527) repeals administrative obstacles and provides businesses the opportunity to get their products certified for export, in accordance with the Federal Department of Agriculture regulations. Businesses requested the certification in order to provide documentation to potential export customers, showing the business’s operation followed good manufacturing practices by U.S. standards.

“So often we hear about government standing in the way of job-creation. This measure is an example of how government can work with businesses and support policies that grow our economy,” said Dahms.

Ralco Nutrition, Inc., a company located in the area served by Dahms, brought the regulatory roadblock to his attention. Ralco Nutrition, Inc. is an innovative, global company based in Marshall, Minnesota.

“In Minnesota, one in every five jobs is agriculture-related,” said Dahms, “and we are now exporting three times more than we were a decade ago. I am proud to have authored a bill that supports such a large part of our state’s economy. With the help of the House and the Department of Agriculture, we put together legislation that creates jobs and helps Minnesota’s agriculture industry thrive.”

The bill, which received overwhelming bipartisan support in the House of Representatives and the Senate, was presented to the governor on February 28, 2012 after its final passage through the legislature.
