Sen. Reinert to Host Town Hall Meeting with Minnesota DOR Commissioner

Senator Roger Reinert will co-host Minnesota Department of Revenue Commissioner Myron Frans at a town hall meeting in Duluth to discuss tax policy and reform ideas with area residents. Also hosting are Lt. Governor Prettner Solon, Rep. Kerry Gauthier, Rep. Tom Huntley and Rep. Mary Murphy.

The meeting will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday March 3, 2012 at the Labovitz School of Business and Economics - Room 118 located on the UMD campus at 1318 Kirby Drive. The Labovitz School of Economics and Business is labeled “LSBE” on the UMD campus map. On weekends, parking is free in Lots E and G and also at any meter on campus, http://duluth.umn.edu/maps/LSBE/.

“It is important for citizens to attend this event,” said Sen. Reinert. “With projections of short-term surpluses and long-term deficits coming out of the Capitol, this town hall meeting is an excellent opportunity to discuss the state’s current fiscal situation and the means to get to structural budget stability.”

Commissioner Frans is collecting tax reform ideas and input for Governor Mark Dayton. The meeting will begin with a short presentation about Minnesota’s tax system and will then open up for questions and discussion to those in attendance.

Commissioner Frans will have additional town hall meetings across the state in the coming weeks. Times and locations of these events can be found here: http://taxes.state.mn.us/Pages/taxreform.aspx.
