| SENATOR MIKE PARRY STATEMENT ON FEBRUARY FORECAST | ||||||||||||
St. Paul- Minnesota Management and Budget Commissioner Jim Schowalter announced Wednesday that the February economic forecast shows a positive budget balance of $323 million for the current biennium (Fiscal Years 2012-13). In accordance with current law, $5 million of that positive balance will be used to restore the state’s budget reserve to a total of $653 million and the remainder, $318 million, will be used to buy-down the school shift. Senator Mike Parry (R-Waseca) gave the following statement in response to the February forecast.
“In just over a year, with Republican leadership in the legislature, Minnesota has leapt from $6.2 billion deficit to a $1.2 billion surplus. This is great news! As Chair of the State Government Committee, I made sure that we focused our efforts on streamlining government and finding efficiencies in our agencies. Today’s news confirms that those steps to restrain spending and restore sensible government lead to a positive result for Minnesota,” said Senator Parry. “But we aren’t done yet! We are on the right path and we intend on staying there. I remain strongly committed to fiscal responsibility and promoting policies that encourage job growth in our private sector.”
