Sen. Sheran Appointed to Subcommittee and Advisory Panel

State Sen. Kathy Sheran has been appointed to two new panels in which she will be able to give input on government reform and collaboration to benefit Greater Minnesota.

Sen. Sheran was appointed to the Greater Minnesota Advisory Panel by Governor Mark Dayton. The panel, made up of both local and state government representatives, will explore the impact of legislation on greater Minnesota as it is being considered each session.

“This advisory panel is the only forum of its kind in which state and local governments would meet in a bipartisan form to address pressing issues,” Sen. Sheran said. “Our state has had some difficult challenges, but we need to talk about how the proposed solutions made at the state level affect local governments in greater Minnesota and what we can do about that.”

The Advisory Panel will meet four times year, with the meetings held in St. Paul during the legislative session. The other non-session meeting location would rotate around the state.

In addition, Sen. Sheran will serve on a 12-member Subcommittee on Reform and Redesign will work on ways to streamline government and make it more efficient.

“There are always ways we can do things better,” Sen. Sheran said. “This subcommittee will pursue those ideas that look to make government work better for the citizens of the state.”
