| Senator Limmer Moves Confirmation of Ramona Dohman as Commissioner of Public Safety | ||||||||||||
St. Paul – The Minnesota Senate voted Monday to confirm the appointment of Ramona Dohman as Commissioner of Public Safety. Senator Warren Limmer (R-Maple Grove), Chair of the Judiciary and Public Safety Committee, gave the following statement in regards to Commissioner Dohman’s appointment.
“It was my pleasure to recommend confirmation of Ramona Dohman as the next Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety today on the Senate floor. I am thrilled that my colleagues in the Senate voted to confirm her. As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, our paths often crossed at conferences where public safety was studied. From our interactions, I know that Commissioner Dohman grasps the complex conflicts that sometimes arise between civil liberties and law enforcement, as well as the ‘service model’ that is often required with modern policing,” said Senator Limmer.
“Her skills and professionalism have been repeatedly recognized throughout her career. My compliments go to Governor Dayton who selected Commissioner Dohman. I met Commissioner Dohman 20 years ago when she began work in Maple Grove and I am confident she will continue to provide the professional, conscientious service the people of Minnesota expect,” concluded Senator Limmer.
Ramona Dohman has nearly 30 years of experience in law enforcement and she is respected as an influential leader in that community. She has served in police departments in both the metro area and greater Minnesota. She has worked in Maple Grove’s Police Department since 1984, first as an investigator and patrol officer before being promoted to Chief in 2001. Prior to 1984, Dohman was a Patrol Officer for the City of Marshall and the City of Glencoe. In 2003, she earned a Masters of Arts degree in Police Leader, Administration and Education from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul/Minneapolis.
