| SENATOR DOUG MAGNUS, MINNESOTA SENATE CONVENES 2012 LEGISLATIVE SESSION | ||||||||||||
St. Paul—The Minnesota Senate convened Tuesday for the start of the 2012 Legislative Session. Senator Doug Magnus (R-Slayton) is serving his second session in the Minnesota Senate. Senator Magnus gave the following statement regarding the new legislative session.
“I’m glad to be back in St. Paul for the 2012 legislative session. During the interim, I was able to meet with folks in district, listen to their concerns and develop solutions. Last session, we were handed a $5 billion deficit. Now, state economists forecast an $876 million surplus. This is a result of the steps we took to change the way government operates and prioritize spending in the legislature. I’m looking forward to building on those successes in the 2012 session,” said Senator Magnus.
Senator Magnus is Chair of the Agriculture and Rural Economies Committee and also serves on the Committees for Capital Investment, Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications and Finance.
“My legislative priority this session is putting Minnesotans back to work. One in five Minnesota jobs is agriculture related. As Chair of the Agriculture and Rural Economies Committee, I’ll be working on ways to keep that industry strong by focusing on the ‘Three E” – exports, environment and energy. If we address existing regulatory roadblocks and permitting issues we grow this critical part of Minnesota’s economy and spur job creation,” concluded Senator Magnus.
Senator Magnus was elected to his first term in the Minnesota State Senate in November 2010. Senator Magnus can be reached at: 651-296-5650 (office) or sen.doug.magnus@senate.mn.
