Senator Ted Lillie, Minnesota Senate Convenes 2012 Legislative Session

St. Paul—The Minnesota Senate convened Tuesday for the start of the 2012 Legislative Session. Senator Ted Lillie (R-Lake Elmo) is serving his second session in the Minnesota Senate. Senator Lillie gave the following statement regarding the new legislative session.

“I’m excited to be back at the Capitol, bringing Senate District 56 constituents’ voices to St. Paul. This session, I intend on continuing to prioritize job creation and policies that promote economic growth in Minnesota. Last year, we began session with a $5 billion deficit. Now, state economists forecast an $876 million surplus. In one year, Republicans’ focus on sensible government and fiscal responsibility has started to produce results. In 2012, we are going to take the opportunity to build on those successes,” said Senator Lillie.

This Session, Senator Lillie was selected by his peers in the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus to serve as an Assistant Majority Leader and Majority Whip.

“I am honored that my colleagues in the Senate Republican Caucus chose me to serve on their leadership team and I am ready to get to work with them. While I am new to government, I am not new to leading and I fully intend on bringing my private sector, small business skills to the table as we identify the best course forward,” added Senator Lillie.

Senator Lillie is Vice Chair on the Committee for Jobs and Economic Growth and also serves on the Committees for State Government Innovation and Veterans and Transportation.

“My legislative priority this session is promoting policies that encourage private-sector growth and help put more Minnesotans back to work. As Vice Chair of the Jobs Committee, I will work to reduce unnecessary regulatory roadblocks and tax burdens that smother entrepreneurs and job creators looking to expand. I am particularly proud of legislation that watches out for Minnesota taxpayers. Specifically, I am authoring a bill to ensure child-care assistance dollars are applied to the care of children instead of being diverted directly to unions. I am also co-sponsoring legislation to prevent shutdowns and make sure taxpayers and businesses aren’t held hostage in the event of a future budget impasse,” concluded Senator Lillie.

Senator Lillie was elected to his first term in the Minnesota State Senate in November 2010. Senator Lillie can be reached at: 651-296-4166 (office) or sen.ted.lillie@senate.mn.
