| Miller, Drazkowski to Attend Deer Damage Workshop Jan. 26 at Southeast Tech | ||||||||||||
(ST. PAUL) – Sen. Jeremy Miller (R-Winona) and Rep. Steve Drazkowski (R-Mazeppa) will attend a deer damage workshop from 6:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26 at the Tandeski Center at Southeast Technical College. The workshop is hosted by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
“In our part of the state we have an ongoing balancing act between farming interests and deer hunters, and we have to do all we can to assure the sustainability of both,” said Miller. “Unfortunately, deer do damage to corn and soybeans in the summer and to stored forage crops in the winter. This workshop will provide information about the Department of Natural Resource’s Wildlife Damage Program which seeks to help mitigate the harm caused by deer.”
Drazkowski added, "We have begun discussions with the DNR on potential solutions that will allow farmers more ability to manage out-of-control deer populations on their farms. We encourage farmers to bring ideas for addressing this serious issue to this meeting."
Department of Natural Resources staff will explain the program and be available to answer questions.
