| SENATOR DAHMS APPOINTED TO LEGISLATIVE CITIZEN COMMISSION ON MINNESOTA RESOURCES (LCCMR) | ||||||||||||
(ST. PAUL) – Senator Gary Dahms (R-Redwood Falls) was appointed to the Legislative Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) by outgoing member, Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen (R-Alexandria). The LCCMR is a 17-member panel of legislators and citizens that makes funding recommendations to the legislature for environment and natural resources projects. The projects are primarily funded by the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF), a permanent fund in the state treasury.
Senator Dahms, vice-chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee and a member of the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee, commented, “I am honored to receive this appointment from Sen. Ingebrigtsen. The LCCMR will miss his leadership and knowledge of the issues facing Minnesota’s environment, and we thank him for his dedicated service. Going forward, I am committed to ensuring a fair and unbiased review of proposals put before the Commission. It is a responsibility of government officials to use taxpayer dollars efficiently and appropriately, and I intend to fulfill that responsibility. I look forward to serving on the Commission and identifying ways we can protect and enhance Minnesota’s outdoors and natural resources.”
Sen. Dahms’ duties on the Commission will include reviewing, evaluating and ranking all funding proposals submitted. Sen. Dahms and the group will view presentations on the highest ranked proposals, and ultimately make a formal recommendation for funding to the legislature. A total of 241 requests for a combined $162 million were received for 2011-12 funding; of those, 92 were recommended for a portion of the $50.6 million available.
The LCCMR developed from a program initiated in 1963. Since then, over $650 million has been appropriated to more than 1,650 projects recommended to the legislature.
Sen. Dahms’ appointment is effective immediately, and he will participate in his first LCCMR meeting on Tuesday, September 27.
