| PEDERSON APPOINTED TO THE CLEAN WATER COUNCIL | ||||||||||||
St. Paul – State Senator John Pederson (R-St. Cloud) was recently appointed to the Clean Water Council. The appointment is a result of reorganized membership of the council that was agreed to in the 2011 Special Session Legacy Funding bill. Sen. Pederson is one of four newly appointed legislators added to the council.
The Clean Water Council was created through the Clean Water Legacy Act. The council’s role is to advise the Governor and legislature on the administration and implementation of the Clean Water Legacy Act. This includes coordination among public agencies and private entities to ensure cooperation with relevant plans and programs, prioritizing strategies for total maximum daily loads and restoration and protection activities. The council also is responsible for developing the appropriate processes for expert scientific review and developing education and participation strategies for citizens and stakeholders.
“It is a great honor to be appointed to the Clean Water Council,” said Sen. Pederson. “Minnesota prides itself on its abundant natural resources. Preserving our clean water in the land of 10,000 lakes is critical to the future of our state and for future generations. I am looking forward to working with my fellow legislators and council members to preserve and enhance Minnesota’s water quality.”
The Clean Water Council meets on a monthly basis and all council meetings are open to the public. Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month with the next meeting scheduled on Monday, September 19th. Sen. Pederson will be participating in a new member orientation prior to this month’s meeting due to the high volume of new membership on the council.
