| SENATE JOBS & ECONOMIC GROWTH COMMITTEE VISITS ST. CLOUD AREA BUSINESSES | ||||||||||||
St. Paul – Members of the Minnesota Senate’s Jobs and Economic Growth Committee will be visiting with the St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce and touring area businesses and community groups on Friday, September 9th. The lawmakers are reaching out to private sector job creators to develop plans and policies for the 2012 Legislative Session.
Senator Geoff Michel (R-Edina), Chair of the Jobs and Economic Growth Committee will lead a group of fellow committee members making the trip to central Minnesota. “Our goal is to make Minnesota the best place to start and grow a business,” said Sen. Michel. “We need to listen to job creators and find out what we can do in St. Paul to help them.”
The first stop will be a meeting with the St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce followed by a visit and tour of Viking Coca Cola Bottling Company. Fellow committee member, Senator John Pederson (R-St. Cloud) will also be in attendance. “The St. Cloud area has been growing in population and is ripe for expansion, investment and opportunity,” said Sen. Pederson. “It is critical that we work to promote a business-friendly economic climate and maintain an educated workforce.”
Sen. Michel added: “The battle in Washington has been about taxes and spending. Those are important topics, but we need to add a third topic -- growth. How can we grow our state’s private sector economy? We hope to find some first-hand answers to this in St. Cloud.”
