| SENATOR CARLA NELSON: NO BUDGET. NO PAY. | ||||||||||||
St. Paul-Senator Carla Nelson (R-Rochester) announced Monday that even though the legislature passed a budget that would keep government open and operating and Governor Dayton vetoed it the day after session, she will not be taking her salary in the event of a State Government shutdown. She will also not be taking per diem during Special Session.
On May 20th, Senator Nelson notified those on her email update list that she would not be taking per diem payments should a special session occur. Monday, June 20th, she notified her email subscribers that she would not be taking pay during a shut down either.
“When Governor Dayton rejected two compromises without offering any counter proposals, it became clear to me that a shutdown was imminent. I immediately told my family that I would not be getting paid in July and we need to plan accordingly,” said Senator Nelson.
“In the event of a shutdown, I expect to be treated like every other state employee. I will not be taking per diem or pay, although, I will continue to work toward a solution,” added Senator Nelson. “It is my greatest hope that Governor Dayton and Legislative leaders will come to an agreement prior to June 30th. In support of state employees who will not get paychecks during a shutdown, I too will refuse payment.”
Senator Nelson encourages concerned Minnesotans to contact her with their opinions and to contact Governor Dayton and Legislative Leaders.
