| REPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP APPOINTS MEMBERS TO LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION ON PLANNING & FISCAL POLICY | ||||||||||
(St. Paul) -- Republican legislative leadership met on Tuesday to appoint members to the 2011 Legislative Commission on Planning and Fiscal Policy (LCPFP). The joint, bipartisan commission will meet to examine competing budget proposals from Governor Dayton and the balanced budget compromise bills passed by the Republican majorities in the legislature during the regular legislative session.
“We have appointed a commission that will draw important conclusions about tax dollar collections and tax dollars spent,” said Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch (R-Buffalo). “We are determined to end the cycle of perpetual budget deficits that have become far too common in Minnesota. We were elected to be problem solvers and this commission will be a valuable tool in that effort.”
“This commission serves as a resource to help resolve the state’s current budget crisis, as well as assess the need for long-term structural fiscal reform. We know the fiscal challenges we face as a state will not be solved with a single biennial budget,” said Speaker of the House Kurt Zellers (R-Maple Grove). “The information gained through this commission will help us as lawmakers assess and understand the state's revenues and expenditures in order to put state government on a sustainable path and curtail the cycle of budget deficits that plague our state."
Members of the Minnesota Senate appointed to the LCPFP are:
Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch, Deputy Majority Leader Geoff Michel, Sen. Julianne Ortman, Sen. David Hann, Sen. Mike Parry, Sen. Claire Robling, Senate Minority Leader Tom Bakk, Sen. Linda Berglin, and Sen. Keith Langseth.
Members of the Minnesota House of Representatives appointed to the LCPFP are:
Speaker of the House Kurt Zellers, Rep. Jim Abeler, Rep. King Banaian, Rep. Mark Buesgens, Rep. Steve Drazkowski, Rep. Pat Garofalo, Rep. Morrie Lanning, Rep. Doug Wardlow, Rep. Mindy Greiling, and Rep. Ann Lenczewski.
