SENATOR BENJAMIN KRUSE GETS SIGNATURES FROM GOVERNOR ON JOBS & REFORM BILLS

St. Paul – Senator Benjamin Kruse (R-Brooklyn Park) had two bills signed by Governor Mark Dayton Friday. Senate File 249 is a jobs bill that prevents “storm chasing” contractors from targeting homeowners who experience home damage due to hail, tornadoes etc. It has broad support from the Insurance Federation of Minnesota, Professional Insurance Agents of Minnesota, Minnesota Independent Insurance Adjusters, Minnesota Association of Exterior Contractors, Builders Association of Minnesota and the Department of Labor and Industry.

“With the recent tornado in North Minneapolis, this bill could not have been signed in law soon enough. In the past, we’ve seen contractors come in from out of state and offer major repairs for free or for a deal and then they skip town. These types of transactions not only make a bad name for honest contractors, but also drive up insurance costs for homeowners because dishonest contractors often roll the cost of the deductible into the repairs,” said Senator Kruse. “I’m thrilled to have the Governor’s signature on this timely bill. It is truly a victory for Minnesota small businesses and Minnesota homeowners.”

Senate File 1234 is a reform bill that makes it easier for businesses to transfer and operate in Minnesota through increased efficiency in the Secretary of State’s office.

"We need Minnesota to be open for business and we can do that by bringing government into the 21st century. My bill streamlines our government by eliminating waste in the Secretary of State's office and giving them the option of using email instead of paying for postage. Furthermore, my bill makes Minnesota friendlier to job providers. Businesses looking to transfer from an out of state business into Minnesota will face fewer obstacles and the hassle of renewing business names will be eliminated. This bill also makes doing business in Minnesota convenient by allowing business owners access to more services online. By bringing efficiency and innovation to our government and business interactions, we can save the taxpayers’ money and improve the business environment here in Minnesota," added Senator Kruse.
