| SENATE MAJORITY LEADER AMY KOCH ON GOV. DAYTON’S VETO OF COAL MORATORIUM BILL: VETO COMPOUNDS MINNESOTAN’S ECONOMIC WOES | ||||||||||||
Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch (R-Buffalo) released the following statement after Gov. Mark Dayton (D-MN) vetoed the coal moratorium bill. SF 86 passed with bi-partisan support and would provide an exemption to the current prohibition on new CO2 emissions from a new coal power plant built in Minnesota or from coal power imported from another state.
“Low cost fuel sources help keep electricity costs affordable and with gas prices near $4 per gallon and home prices falling, Gov. Mark Dayton’s veto is compounding Minnesotan’s economic woes. Coal is still the most abundant, economical and most reliable fuel source for electric power generation. A stable supply of power well into the future is critical to keep business and industry in the state and to attract new job providers.
Minnesota must send a message that this is a good place to invest and grow businesses. By closing our market with his veto, Gov. Dayton is discouraging job providers from coming to Minnesota.”
