| SENATOR HALL’S BILL “HANNAH’S LAW” SIGNED INTO LAW BY GOVERNOR DAYTON Requires CPR Training for Teachers, Assistant Teachers in Child Care Centers | ||||||||||||
ST. PAUL– Senator Dan Hall’s bill, “Hannah’s Law,” requiring CPR training for all teachers and assistant teachers in child care centers, was signed into law by Governor Mark Dayton Thursday, May 19. Senator Hall joined Governor Dayton at the signing ceremony alongside Representative Mary Liz Holberg, who carried the legislation in the House, and several members of Hannah’s family, the Kozitzas, including her mother, father, grandfather, and sister.
Hannah Kozitza, whose tragedy inspired this legislation, died last summer after choking on a grape while at a day care facility. The new law increases the preparedness at child care facilities and brings public awareness of the importance of emergency training for those that care for children.
Senator Hall shared these remarks at the ceremony:
“Today, with the signing of this bill into law, we honor Hannah Kozitza, a beautiful little girl whose presence and joy were taken too quickly from us. It is always heartbreaking when a tragedy occurs that makes us realize the necessity for legislation like Hannah’s Law. But through the hard work and dedication of many people, we are here today to pass this legislation that will protect other children like Hannah and keep them safe from future tragedies. I would like to thank my colleague, Representative Mary Liz Holberg, who worked tirelessly in the House on this bill, and Governor Dayton for his recognition of the importance of Hannah’s Law to the safety of the children of Minnesota. I especially commend and thank the Kozitza family for the courage and perseverance that made this legislation possible, whose beautiful little girl we honor here today with the signing of “Hannah’s Law.”
