| SENATE AND HOUSE AGRICULTURE COMMITTEE CHAIRS ISSUE STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR DAYTON’S BUDGET BILL REMARKS | ||||||||||||
St. Paul – In an interview on Minnesota Public Radio, Governor Mark Dayton stated that he “made a mistake” in signing the FY2012-13 Agriculture and Rural Economies Omnibus budget bill and that he and his administration “got fooled” during the process.
The budget bill was signed by the governor on April 15, after receiving bi-partisan support in both the Senate and House.
Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Doug Magnus (R-Slayton) and House Agriculture Chair Rod Hamilton (R-Mountain Lake) issued the following statement in response to Governor Dayton’s remarks:
“The Governor’s comments today are not helpful. Upon signing the agriculture bill, he stated that it was ‘another example of excellent bi-partisan cooperation,’ and a ‘model for how we can work together and compromise in order to reach a conclusion.’ Today, his comments couldn’t be more removed from that spirit of ‘cooperation’ and ‘compromise.’ With only seven days of the legislative session remaining, Governor Dayton has an opportunity to provide leadership in negotiating a final budget solution. We look forward to working with the Governor in a positive and constructive manner as we move ahead in the final days of the session.”
