| SENATOR DAVE BROWN CO-SPONSORS CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT | ||||||||||||
(St. Paul) -- Senator Dave Brown (R-Becker) announced the introduction of a constitutional amendment that would give Minnesotans the opportunity to vote on the definition of marriage in the 2012 Election. Senator Brown is listed as one the co-authors of the bill.
“The question on the constitutional amendment asks voters to define marriage as solely between one man and one woman in Minnesota. This is not a new issue to be discussed during legislative sessions and it’s time to let the people decide. I believe it is wrong to allow a small number of politicians, or activist judges in St. Paul to decide what the definition of marriage is. We are proposing an early passage in the legislature this year, followed by a year of discussion in our communities statewide in order to be prepared for an informed vote in next year’s General Election,” said Senator Brown.
Senator Brown added: “Amendment questions like this have been put to voters in numerous other states around the country. By going directly to the voters, we will ensure that the decision will reflect the values of the voters and not rogue judges and legislators.”
