AGRICULTURE AND RURAL ECONOMIES CONFERENCE REPORT PASSES SENATE, SENT TO HOUSE

St. Paul – The Omnibus Agriculture and Rural Economies budget bill for FY2012-13 passed in the State Senate with a bi-partisan vote of 52-9. This bill is the conference report after the House and Senate reconciled their differences in conference committee earlier this week. The House will now vote on the bill before it is sent to Governor Dayton.

Senate Agriculture and Rural Economies Chair Doug Magnus (R-Slayton) stated today:

“Thanks to our farmers, producers, researchers and advocates, Minnesota has the sixth largest state agriculture economy in the nation. The continued health and growth of this industry is vital to a full economic recovery in Minnesota. The budget we reached reflects a focus on our priorities and our commitment to ensuring the health and success of the agriculture industry.

“I want to thank my colleagues and staff in the Agriculture Committee, the Board of Animal Health and the Pollution Control Agency for providing their expertise, and Commissioner Frederickson for working with us along the way. I also want to thank Governor Dayton and his staff for working closely with us to reach a budget deal that works for Minnesota. We look forward to continued work with Governor Dayton, the Department of Agriculture, and our colleagues in the House and Senate to keep Minnesota agriculture strong and vibrant.”

After passing in the Senate, the House will vote on the conference report. If passed, the bill will be sent to Governor Dayton for final consideration.
