GOVERNOR DAYTON ISSUES EXECUTIVE ORDER INCLUDING PROVISIONS FROM SENATOR CARLA NELSON

(St. Paul) – Governor Mark Dayton issued another executive order Tuesday that includes provisions from Senator Carla Nelson’s (R-Rochester) recent bill, seeking improvements in efficiency of government systems and services. Senator Nelson’s legislation (S.F. 907) asks government agencies to request proposals for efficiencies in state operated systems and services. Senator Nelson gave the following statement following the announcement of the executive order.

“They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. This is the second time in the last few days that Governor Dayton issued an order aligning with my bill. We have the opportunity to use recent technological advances to create more efficiency in government and significantly improve systems that prevent and detect Medicaid and tax fraud,” said Senator Nelson. “Someone referred to me today as the ‘idea generator for the Governor.’ I am thrilled that the Governor took steps that further indicate his support of my bill. My piece of legislation will continue through the open, transparent legislative process and at the end, I hope I can count on the Governor’s signature.”

Tuesday’s executive order from Governor Dayton comes on the heels of another executive order that included provisions from Senator Nelson’s bill regarding state facilities which was announced just last Friday. Governor Dayton’s proposal asks the Department of Administration to issue “a Request for Proposal for firms to provide quantitative tools such as data analytics in support of the Administration’s goals to save taxpayers’ money, reduce waste and make government work better for citizens.”

Senator Nelson was elected to her first term in November 2010. Senator Nelson can be reached at: 651-296-4848 (office) or sen.carla.nelson@senate.mn.
