| SENATOR TED LILLIE JOINS GOVERNOR MARK DAYTON TO SURVEY STILLWATER LIFT BRIDGE & ST.CROIX RIVER FLOODING | ||||||||||||
Stillwater- The Minnesota Department of Transportation closed the Stillwater Lift Bridge Friday morning in anticipation of cresting flood waters on the St. Croix River. In an effort to assess the situation, Senator Ted Lille (R-Lake Elmo) joined Governor Mark Dayton and other local officials to survey the bridge and the surrounding area. It is reported that the St. Croix is expected to rise above flood stage sometime Sunday morning and crest on Wednesday afternoon. Senator Lillie gave the following statement following Friday’s visit.
“Today’s visit in Stillwater provided valuable insight into the current flood conditions on the St. Croix and what we can anticipate over the next week as waters continue to rise. I want to thank state and local emergency workers who did a tremendous job with the barrier and flood walls along the river," said Senator Lillie.
"Our visit also reaffirmed my commitment to resolving the Stillwater Lift Bridge issue as soon as possible. While today’s bridge closure presents a real problem for commuters, it was also a great example of the improved quality of life the city's residents and visitors would experience. It was a beautiful day in Stillwater, people were shopping and gathering in local restaurants. I am hopeful that with the support of our federal elected officials, we can move forward for Stillwater,” said Senator Lillie.
Senator Lillie was elected to his first term in November 2010. Senator Lillie can be reached at: 651-296-4166 (office) or sen.ted.lillie@senate.mn.
