| GOVERNOR DAYTON ISSUES EXECUTIVE ORDER INCLUDING PROVISIONS FROM SENATOR NELSON | ||||||||||||
(St. Paul) – Governor Mark Dayton issued an executive order today that included provisions from Senator Carla Nelson’s (R-Rochester) recent bill, seeking improvements in efficiency of government systems and services. Senator Nelson’s legislation (S.F. 907) asks government agencies to request proposals for efficiencies in state operated systems and services. All proposals must focus on using new analytical technology to impact three main areas: state building efficiency, fleet management improvements and Medicaid and tax fraud prevention and detection. Payments to the contractor selected, as required in the bill, would be made only as a result of those recouped savings to the state on the back end. The contractor must also present a pilot program and if reports from the pilot program show significant improvement, the program would then be implemented across the state. Governor Dayton’s executive order “directs state agencies to identify and make cost-effective energy improvements in state facilities, and sets a goal of a 20 percent reduction in state energy consumption.” Senator Nelson released the following statement regarding Governor Dayton’s executive order.
“I’m thrilled that Governor Dayton issued an order today that aligns with my efforts to improve the way we run state government. My bill uses 21st century tools to capitalize on recent technological advances when it comes to creating more efficiency in state buildings and fleet management,” said Senator Nelson. “Innovation and technology need to be part of the discussion when it comes to improving the cost-efficiency of state facilities and vehicles. I am hopeful that the Governor’s actions today indicate his support of my bill and that I can count on his signature.”
Senator Nelson was elected to her first term in November 2010. Senator Nelson can be reached at: 651-296-4848 (office) or sen.carla.nelson@senate.mn.
