| SENATOR DeKRUIF SEEKING EMERGENCY FLOOD MONITORING EQUIPMENT FOR SITES ON MINNESOTA & CANNON RIVERS | ||||||||||||
(ST. PAUL) – State Senator Al DeKruif (R-Elysian) today urged officials from the Department of Natural Resources to take action to install at least temporary flood monitoring equipment at sites on the Minnesota River in southern Scott, Sibley, LeSueur, Nicollet and Blue Earth counties and the Cannon River in Rice County.
Following a tour with Gov. Mark Dayton’s of the area in preparation for anticipated spring flooding, Sen. DeKruif inquired with LeSueur County officials and discovered that, although flooding in the area is not new, the single water-level monitor in the area had stopped working and had not been replaced.
“We are going into a potentially severe flooding season blind,” DeKruif said. “Towns and cities in the area need to know what is going on up-river in order to be prepared.”
Senator DeKruif plans to tour more of the district this weekend to discuss potential sites of monitoring gauges.
