| SEN. MICHELLE BENSON’S BILL TO REDUCE MEDICAID FRAUD HEARD IN COMMITTEE | ||||||||||||
St. Paul-- Senator Michelle Benson (R- Ham Lake) authored a bill to cut down Medicaid waste, fraud and abuse within the system. Senate File 180 directs the Commissioner of Department of Human Services to request proposals for software and services to improve detection of improper Medicaid payments. The bill unanimously passed in committee yesterday to be held over for potential inclusion in a future omnibus bill.
“We have a responsibility to tax payers to protect their hard earned dollars. With the help of industry experts and current technology, we can finely tune our existing Medicaid payment system to reduce errors and false claims. This bill asks the Commissioner of DHS to request proposals from experts on ways of using software and available technology to improve detection of errors and fraud. By harvesting the best ideas and technology to improve our Medicaid payment system, tax payers can have faith that their dollars aren’t being wasted,” said Senator Benson. “Reducing errors and false claims also ensures that those who need help are the people receiving it.”
Senator Michelle Benson (R- Ham Lake) was elected to her first term in November 2010 and serves on three committees including Agriculture and Rural Economies, Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications, and Health and Human Services in the Minnesota Senate.
