STATE LOTTERY ANNOUNCES RECORD 2010 SALES, $6.5 MILLION FROM SENATE DISTRICT 22

St. Paul –The Minnesota State Lottery celebrated its 20th anniversary last year with record sales and contributions to state programs. State Senator Doug Magnus (R-Slayton) announced today that lottery participants from Senate District 22 accounted for $6.5 million worth of the record-setting sales of tickets and games. The Senate District includes Cottonwood, Jackson, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone and Rock Counties.

Of the total District 22 sales, $4,829,377 came from scratch tickets and $1,721,473 from lottery games. Sixty-seven lottery retailers in the district earned $396, 192 in commissions and incentives.

These sales resulted in an estimated contribution of $411,393 to the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund. These dollars are used solely to protect our natural resources. Sales in District 22 also contributed $153,945 each to the Game and Fish Fund and Natural Resources Fund. In addition, $885,020 was contributed to the General Fund, where those dollars are used for education, health and human services, public safety, and other programs financed by the state.

“Those who participate in our Minnesota State Lottery added to record contributions to the General Fund and other worthwhile programs,” stated Senator Magnus. “In addition, nearly 70 businesses in our district earned $396, 192 from these sales.”

The Trust Fund program started in 1988 by constitutional amendment with the purpose of protecting the natural resources of Minnesota. Lottery sales statewide in Fiscal Year 2010 were $499.2 million, resulting in contributions of $122.5 million to state programs. Of this, $65.5 million was transferred to the General Fund, $31.3 million to the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, and $11.7 million each to the Natural Resources Fund and Game and Fish Fund (Minnesota State Lottery).
