| SENATOR MICHELLE BENSON ON NUCLEAR POWER PROHIBITION REPEAL | ||||||||||||
(St. Paul) – After 17 years of exclusion, nuclear energy will again be considered as an option. Senate File 4, co-authored by Senator Michelle Benson, passed in the Senate by a bipartisan vote of 50-14. Upon passage, Senator Benson issued the following statement.
“I am so pleased that the Senate overwhelmingly voted in favor of removing Minnesota’s nuclear moratorium today. This vote is the first step towards allowing an all-inclusive and open discussion about affordable, reliable energy in Minnesota. In addition, today’s vote for repeal opens the door for entrepreneurs and job creators to consider all possibilities in the discussion of the future of energy in Minnesota.
With a bipartisan vote of 50-14, Senators from across the State of Minnesota – Democrats and Republicans alike – proved today that we all want to allow nuclear energy to be part of the discussion, and I applaud my colleagues on today’s vote. I am committed to growing jobs in Minnesota, and this bill is a step in the right direction.”
