| SENATOR PAUL GAZELKA APPOINTED TO IRON RANGE RESOURCES AND REHABILITATION BOARD | ||||||||||||
(ST. PAUL) – State Senator Paul Gazelka (R-Brainerd) was appointed to the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB) in a Senate Rules Committee meeting Monday. Following the appointment, Senator Gazelka issued the following statement:
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve on the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board. Along with my fellow board members, I will work hard within this agency to improve the business climate and develop solutions for the workforce on the Iron Range, which includes the Crosby-Ironton area. We have a significant responsibility to reform and strengthen the rapport between state agencies and businesses in order to move forward and create jobs. I know that a prosperous Iron Range community is critical to the overall economic health of the state. ”
The Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation Board is composed of 13 members: five state senators appointed by the Subcommittee on Committees of the Rules Committee of the Senate; five representatives, appointed by the speaker of the House of Representatives; and three members appointed one each by the senate majority leader, the speaker of the House of Representatives, and the governor. These members must be non-legislators who reside in the Taconite Assistance Area. Members are appointed in January of every odd-numbered year and serve until January of the next odd-numbered year (source: IRRRB).
Senator Gazelka will serve with fellow Senators John Carlson (R-Bemidji), Tom Bakk (DFL-Cook), Tom Saxhaug (DFL-Grand Rapids) and David Tomassoni (DFL-Chisholm).
