ST. PAUL-- Senator Michelle Benson (R-49) joined her fellow members of the Minnesota Senate Tuesday to convene the 2011 legislative session. Senator Benson was sworn in and voted to approve the official officers of the Senate. Tuesday marks the first time in 30 years that Republicans hold the majority in the Minnesota Senate and the first time that a woman, Senator Amy Koch (R-Buffalo), has been sworn in as the Majority Leader.
“I’m extremely honored to serve the people of Senate District 49 in St. Paul. I’m looking forward to working with the fantastic team of Republicans leading the Senate. Together, we’re committed to growing jobs in the private sector, spending within our means and creating a more efficient, sensible government for Minnesota,” said Senator Benson.
Senator Benson will serve her first term on three Senate Committees including Agriculture and Rural Economics, Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications, and Health and Human Services.
Senator Benson was elected to her first term in November 2010. Senator Benson can be reached at: 651-296-3219 (office) or sen.michelle.benson@senate.mn.
