About the Update or Conference:
Senate and House Republicans join the Pawlenty administration to announce thier remedy to the methamphetamine epidemic in Minnesota. Sen. Julie Rosen, Rep. Bob Gunther, Commissioner of Public Safety Rich Stanek and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Deputy Superintendent Tim O'Malley outlined their approach in a press conference on the Capitol Steps. Rosen and Gunther will introduce legislation to prohibit the sale of pseudo-ephedrine to people under the age of 18 and limit the amount a single buyer can purchase. It is a common ingredient in the manufacturing of meth. They are also proposing tougher penalities for those who manufacture the drug and or make it in the presence of a child or a vulnerable adult. The bill would also require property where meth has been manufactured to be decontaminated before anyone else can use it.

This bill will be introduced in the 2004 legislative session.
