Primary Responsibilities:
  • Answers phone, routes calls, answers questions and receives visitors
  • Attends community and agency meetings on Senator's behalf and works with stakeholder groups
  • Schedules, prepares for and administers all committee meetings
  • Takes minutes at all committee meetings, prepares committee book at session completion for legal purposes
  • Opens and sorts mail
  • Conducts research on issues
  • Responds to information requests
  • Maintains the Senator’s schedule and coordinates meetings, in and out of the office
  • Composes letters, memos, reports, forms, newsletters
  • Conducts research for constituent correspondence and relaying information to interested parties
  • Provides direction to interns and committee pages
  • Tracks status and progress of all authored bills, submits hearing requests and coordinates follow up meetings
  • Maintains constituent database
  • Maintains Senator’s secondary webpage
  • Updates and maintains calendar
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Strong public relations skills and ability to deal with conflict
  • Excellent keyboarding skills
  • Demonstrated self-starter
  • Strong organizational ability and good judgment
  • Good knowledge of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and composition
  • Prior legislative experience highly desirable
  • Ability to work long hours
