| Primary Responsibilities: |
-
Plan committee meetings including scheduling bills to be heard, arranging testimony by bill authors and other interested parties and insuring all amendments and other research is available for committee consideration.

Assist the chair and committee members in developing his or her legislative agenda including meeting with interested parties, arranging testimony for committee meetings, monitoring actions taken by committees in the Senate and House of Representatives and conducting research.

Negotiate with interested parties about the specifics of legislative proposals and the schedule for committee consideration.

Conduct research and prepare members for committee hearings with regard to legislation before the committee.

Respond to the most complex and sensitive constituent requests.
-
Respond to requests from Senators, staff, the news media and others for information about the issues and legislation pending before the committee.

Monitor legislation pending in the House of Representatives or other Senate committees that is related to the committee's jurisdiction.
-
Conduct interim activities as specified, including but not limited to meetings of the committee and subcommittees.

Represent the committee chair at meetings.

Performs other duties as assigned.

| Qualifications: |
-
Four year college degree or equivalent education and experience.
-
A minimum of two years experience with the Minnesota legislature, Minnesota state government, other legislative bodies or a related field that provides a practical knowledge of the principles of the legislative process.

Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills.
-
Ability to explain committee legislation, policies, and issues to the public, news media and other interested parties in writing and orally.

Ability to exercise supervisory responsibilities such as assigning and reviewing work produced by the committee secretary, committee page and intern.
-
Ability to maintain composure and work cooperatively under pressure with legislators, legislative staff, lobbyists and the public on a daily basis.
