| Primary Responsibilities: |
-
Plans, produces, writes and distributes legislative news to radio and television stations that will favorably and accurately reflect DFL Caucus activities in the Legislatures.

Provides information in a variety of forms that is usable to radio and television media.

Increase Caucus member awareness of radio/television services.
-
Initiates, schedules and conducts radio interviews and audio actualities with Caucus members for referral to radio stations in their districts.

Initiates, schedules and produces video interviews with Caucus members for referral to television stations in their districts.

Keeps updated on newsworthy developments that may impact the legislative process through radio talk and news programs, television news.

Attends legislative sessions, committee hearings, and other events and makes recordings as deemed appropriate.

Develops contacts with all radio and television stations in the state.

Assists with coordination of periodic statewide media swings.

Acts as liaison with other members of the media staff so as to coordinate news releases to the print media with that of radio and television communication.

Keeps director and leadership communications staff informed on all developments which they may need to know to coordinate media activities effectively for the Caucus.

Remains current about the latest advances in electronic communications, including both equipment and methodology. Shares responsibility with all media staff in projecting a high professional level for overall functions of the office, cooperating in the training of new personnel and interns and in all services that aid in fulfillment of the department's mission.

Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as the need is apparent or tasks are assigned by the director and leadership staff.

| Qualifications: |

Four year college degree or equivalent education and experience.

Experience with the Minnesota legislature, Minnesota state government, other legislative bodies or a related organization that provides a practical knowledge of the principles of the legislative process preferred.

Experience in professional communications work. Excellent writing, editing, design and desktop publishing skills, as well as familiarity with the differing needs of print and electronic media.

Demonstrated high-level written and oral communications skills.

Ability to explain legislation, policies, and issues to the public, news media and other interested parties in writing and orally.

Must be interested in working with Senators to service constituents and develop public policy
-
Ability to maintain composure and work cooperatively under pressure with legislators, legislative staff, lobbyists and the public on a daily basis.

Ability to work long, irregular hours and stay focused.
