Author: Senator Tony Lourey

Prepared By: Joan White, Senate Counsel (651/296-3814)

Date: February 15, 2017

S.F. No. 853 modifies the Minnesota supplemental aid program by increasing the housing assistance income supplement for individuals who qualify as shelter needy. (“Shelter needy" means that the assistance unit incurs monthly shelter costs that exceed 40 percent of the assistance unit's gross income before the application of this special needs standard.) This bill also broadens the eligibility for this supplement to individuals who are relocating from group residential housing, and strikes paragraph (g), which expired June 30, 2016.
