Section 1 (145.471) establishes the act.
Subd. 1 authorizes this section to be cited as the “Prenatal Trisomy Diagnosis Awareness Act.”
Subd. 2 defines the following terms: commissioner; deliver; health care practitioner; trisomy conditions.
Subd. 3 requires a health care practitioner who orders tests to screen for trisomy conditions to provide the pregnant woman with the information described in subdivision 4 if the test is positive for any of the trisomy conditions.
Subd. 4 requires the commissioner to make the following information available to health care practitioners: (1) up-to-date and evidence-based information about trisomy conditions that has been reviewed by medical experts and national trisomy organizations; and (2) contact information for nonprofit organizations that provide information and support services for trisomy conditions. The commissioner is also required to post this information on the Department of Health’s Web site. The information must be culturally and linguistically appropriate. Any organization that provides educational and services related to trisomy conditions may request that the commissioner includes the organization’s informational material and contact information on the department’s Web site.
Section 2 provides an effective date of August 1, 2015.
