Section 1 requires a candidate to file a residency petition if one is required by section 2.

Section 2 requires a candidate to present a residency petition if the candidate:  (1) will have resided in the state for less than one year at the time of the election; (2) will have resided in the district for fewer than six months at the time of the election; or (3) will have resided in the district less than 30 days before the start of the candidate filing period. The number of signatures required is the same as for a petition in place of a filing fee. A petition may be used as both a petition in place of a filing fee and a residency petition.  A nominating petition may be used as a petition in place of a filing fee, a residency petition, or both.  The petition must include a prominent statement informing signers of the purpose of the petition.
