S.F. No. 1621 - Child Care Accreditation Standard Requirement Modification (As Amended by the A-3 Amendment)

Author: Senator Benjamin A. Kruse

Prepared By: Joan White, Senate Counsel (651/296-3814)

Date: March 14, 2012

The A-3 amendment lists the criteria that the commissioner must consider when developing the accreditation standards for child care centers in order to receive the provider rate differential.  The Commissioner of Human Services, in conjunction with the Commissioners of Education and Health, must develop eligibility criteria, and implement application and approval processes and report to the members of the legislative committees that have jurisdiction over early childhood issues  by February 15, 2013.  The current criteria remain in effect until an approval proces is implemented.  This bill does not affect the accreditation criteria for Montessori programs.
