Author: Senator David H. Senjem

Prepared By: David A. Lobejko, Senate Analyst (651/296-7178)

Date: March 2, 2012

This bill requires the Department of Human Services (DHS) to develop, in consultation with the Departments of Education and Employment and Economic Development, a plan to create a 24-hour supervised residential campus for people with autism. In addition to the cost, the plan must identify how the programming among the agencies will be shared so the various needs of the residents can be met. The deadline for the plan is August 31, 2012.

The bill also requires DHS to submit a proposal by January 1, 2013, to the federal government seeking authority to create and fund the residential campus.
