Under current law "relevant military experience" for the purposes of eligibility to stand for
reciprocity Peace Officer examination is defined as five years of active military police service.
Senate File No. 908 redefines "relevant military experience" as follows:
- successful graduation from a military service law enforcement academy, and five years
active service experience in a military law enforcement occupational specialty;
- successful graduation from a military service law enforcement academy, three years
active service in a military law enforcement occupational specialty, and completion of
a two-year or more degree from a regionally accredited postsecondary education
institution; or
- five years cumulative experience as a full-time peace officer in another state combined
with active service experience in a military law enforcement occupational specialty.
A person with relevant military experience who has been honorably discharged from active
service as evidenced by a form DD-214 (the military discharge or separation of service document)
