S.F. No. 3026 - Disabled American Veteran License Plate Repeal
Author: Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen
Prepared by: Thomas S. Bottern, Senate Counsel (651/296-3810)
Date: March 11, 2010

This agency bill prepared by the Department of Veterans Affairs repeals Minnesota Statutes, section 168.1251, which provides authorization for the Commissioner of Transportation to issue special license plates bearing the inscription "Disabled American Veteran." The department has stated that the plates authorized by this section of law do not have a design, do not provide special disability-related privileges, and have not been requested by any applicant.

Existing law provides the authorization for a very similar license plate. Minnesota Statutes, section 168.1235, authorizes special license plates designed for Congressionally chartered veterans service organizations, which includes the Disabled American Veterans. The department has stated that this plate is currently being provided to eligible applicants.
