S.F. No. 229 authorizes a registered physician assistant to certify that a person is physically disabled for purposes of obtaining a special license plate, to be considered an examiner for purposes of civil commitment, and to provide cause of death information for purposes of death registrations.

Section 1 (147A.09, subd. 2) expands the list of services that may be delegated to a registered physician assistant to include these expansions in authority.

Section 2 (169.345, subd. 2a) authorizes a registered physician assistant to certify that a person is physically disabled for purposes of obtaining a special license plate.

Section 3 (253B.02, subd. 7) includes a registered physician assistant in the definition of "examiner" for purposes of civil commitment. (The physician assistant would be required to be "knowledgeable, trained, and practicing in the diagnosis and treatment of the alleged impairment.")

Section 4 requires the Commissioner of Health to amend rules to authorize registered physician assistants to provide and amend cause of death information.
