S.F. No. 197 -Relating to Local Government Fees
Author: Senator Jim Vickerman
Prepared by: Daniel P. McGowan, Senate Counsel (651/296-4397)
Date: April 9, 2003

The proposed legislation would authorize municipalities to set a fee schedule rather than impose fees by ordinance as currently required by law. Cities and towns may impose fees to cover the costs of reviewing, investigating, and administering applications for zoning changes or application for other types of permits related to planning and zoning. This bill would simply allow cities and towns to adopt a schedule of fees by a majority vote of the governing body rather than adopt a separate ordinance every time a new fee were set.
